LAPR 933 - Introduction to Zen Buddhism An examination of the Zen understanding of being human: the problem of human existence Zen seeks to resolve, the liberation it claims to achieve, the meaning of the satori or “Awakening” which Zen claims is the basis of this liberation, the Zen koan as the meaning through which the Awakening is attained, the art that results from Awakening, and the possible contributions of Zen to the contemporary spiritual, philosophic, and artistic situation in the West.
