C O N T E N T S
Description
The Graduate Certificate in Music Education is for practicing music educators who will enroll in graduate level courses that are offered through Summer Music Studies. Courses can count toward the MM in Music Education, or be used as a post-master’s certificate. These courses satisfy the requirements of school districts who want their funds allocated towards academically rigorous programs. Credits can also count toward continuing education credits (e.g., PA Act 48, NY CTLU, etc) and Level II certification for PA Dept. of Education.
Program Objectives
Students in the Graduate Certificate in Music Education program will:
- Design, employ and deliver quality instructional, curriculum and assessment approaches to learning and student growth for K-12 music teaching.
- Utilize effective pedagogical, technological and sociological methods to support student musicianship in the K-12 music classroom.
- Develop classroom content and curricula that facilitate the relationship between creative and cognitive growth in K-12 music students.
- Develop content that is inclusive of all learners in the music classroom.
- Evolve as creative and innovative musicians who share these musical strengths with their learners through teaching
- Understand, in a more sophisticated means, the diverse cultural, communal, sociological, psychological and learning needs of 21st century students.
