Description
The curriculum for Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film + Video is built around a progressive sequence of classes designed to teach professional skills and critical viewing habits and to expand the students’ sense of the possibilities of the media. An introduction to fundamental ideas and techniques comprises the first two years. Within the two remaining years, the student will refine techniques, pursue activities directly related to professional practice, understand the larger cultural and aesthetic context in which their work functions, and develop a sense of personal vision. Classes involve a synthesis of hands-on instruction, lectures, screenings and critiques.
Program Objectives
Students graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film + Video will:
- Express a developed personal, artistic vision
- Demonstrate technical and aesthetic proficiency in creating films
- Acquire professional film skills in a collaborative environment
- Develop an understanding of professional practices in the field of film
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze various historical and cultural contexts in film
This major provides students with a background in all phases of media production, including digital cinematography, sound and image editing, lighting, and sound/image manipulation. Film + Video students acquire a strong background in criticism, theory, and the history of media and take advantage of a wide range of internship and study abroad opportunities.

CAMD School Core (6 credits)
