STET 608 Leveraging Social Media for Learning

This course focuses on how teachers can effectively integrate social media platforms as powerful teaching tools within the classroom. It delves into practical strategies for leveraging social media to enhance student engagement, foster critical thinking, and promote collaborative learning experiences. Throughout the course, educators will examine the benefits and challenges of incorporating social media into educational settings, with a strong emphasis on responsible digital citizenship and ethical considerations. They will explore various social media platforms, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, and learn how to adapt their use for instructional purposes, accommodating diverse learning needs and educational objectives. The course also delves into effective strategies for developing students’ digital literacy skills, including media literacy, online research, and information evaluation. Participants will explore innovative ways to integrate social media into curriculum design, lesson planning, and assessment, ensuring alignment with educational standards and objectives.
