The course catalogue contains information on all active courses offered by the University including: title, course number, credits, contact hours, prerequisites, offering college, priority enrollment, repeatability, and restrictions.  Courses listed in the catalogue are not offered every semester.  To access a listing of course sections being offered during a particular term refer to the Course Section Offerings page on the Office of the Registrar website.

Course Renumbering

Commencing with the 2013-14 academic year the University began a multi-year course renumbering.

  • Division of Liberal Arts
    Many courses within the Division of Liberal Arts commencing with the Summer and Fall 2014 terms will be offered under new course numbers. Courses impacted by this change now include a reference to either the new course number or the new subject code. For example “LACR 101 (FYWT*111)” where the number in parenthesis is the new course number. Students registering for Summer 2014 coursework and beyond will do so using the new course numbers.

    This beginning-level course provides an introduction to the elements of Spanish dance. Students learn how to use castanets, plus the arm and footwork, turns, and rhythmic hand-clapping characteristics of flamenco. Through classroom exercises and videotapes, students explore several types of Spanish folk dance, classical dance, and contemporary choreographic styles, and learn a number of short dances, including at least one verse of the popular “Sevillanas.”

    The GYROKINESIS(R) body conditioning technique simultaneously stretches and strengthens the body with minimal effort, while increasing range of motion and developing coordination. It incorporates principles from yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi. Unique to this system of exercises, GYROKINESIS(R) class begins with participants practicing self-massage and simple breathing patterns, known as ‘Awakening of the Senses.’ Then the spine and pelvis are engaged through simple exercises: while seated on low stools, participants mobilize the spine through a series of arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. The class moves on to the floor, or mat. These same movement patterns are expanded to release the hip, knee, hamstring, quadriceps and so on, in all possible directions. More vigorous movement patterns are executed to enhance trunk stability, strength and endurance. Class often finishes with a short relaxation period.

    The Franklin Method, developed by movement specialist Eric Franklin, teaches dynamic alignment and how to move the body with maximum efficiency to keep the body youthful and energized.     A continuation of Pilates Mat Class. The Pilates Method is a series of exercises intended as a complete approach to developing body awareness and easing physicality. It is an exercise-based system that aims to develop the body’s center in order to create a stable core for all types of movement. Intermediate Pilates Mat continues to build strength and flexibility through the practice and study of the practical and conceptual work of founder Joseph Pilates. Exercises are taught in greater depth with a more advanced exploration of the Pilates conditioning system.

    This course introduces the fundamental principles of costume design and construction for stage productions. Through the analysis of music, movement, color texture, light and mood, the student will develop a knowledge of the various elements of effective costuming. They will develop the skills to create design ideas in collaboration with choreographers, performers, and directors.

    This open elective studio dance practice course explores the teaching philosophy, methodology, and artistic practice of ‘DanceAbility’ founded by Alito Alessi . Students will have studio seminars exploring the movement principles and exercises developed in this method. As an improvisational workshop, students explore the ideas of sensation, relationship, time and design in regards to self-movement, moving with others, community, and the environment. The students will have the opportunity to dance with different populations outside the university studio settings dancing with senior centers and other special populations. No dance experience needed and all abilities are welcome. The course takes place in a wheelchair accessible building and studio.
