Description

The Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology introduces topics, theories and principles of educational technology to transform the classroom into a 21st century learning environment. Courses in this certificate emphasize the use of technology in the classroom as an ‘instructional tool’ to enrich the quality of teaching and to enhance learning. The topics of internet safety and copyright are also reviewed. Teachers will learn to effectively improve their classroom through the use of a variety of online tools and assessments. Teachers will also learn about technology that can be used to differentiate instruction to accommodate students with different learning styles.

This certificate is for in-service teachers. Courses within this certificate may also fulfill requirements of the Educational Technology emphasis in the MEd in Educational Program Design and MEd in Educational Technology.

Program Objectives

Students will:

  • Develop an understanding of skills and concepts related to educational technology.
  • Explain how technology can be used as an educational benefit to enhance learning.
  • Identify the characteristics of the “digital learner.”
  • Utilize educational technologies to enhance instruction among diverse learners.
  • Explore the role of educational technology in the classroom setting.
  • Identify educational resources on the web and explore the use of online instructional web tools.
  • Create engaging lessons using technology as a classroom tool.
  • Explore and evaluate the different types of emerging educational technologies.
    Integrate student assessment technologies.
